The Brett Kavanaugh Supreme Court Nomination and Day Laborers on Labor Day Weekend 2018

On this week’s episode of JustLove, Monsignor Kevin Sullivan talks about Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court nomination and also the work of day laborers as a celebration of Labor Day.

Professor Patrick McKinley Brennan is a Professor of Law and the John F. Scarpa Chair in Catholic Legal Studies at Villanova School of Law in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Prof. Brennan, who attended Yale College with Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh, will be discussing the nomination of Judge Kavanaugh to the United States Supreme Court seat, recently vacated by retired Justice Anthony Kennedy, with Msgr. Sullivan. They will also talk about the history of Catholics on the Supreme Court and what role – if any – a judge’s religious views can and do play in judicial deliberations.

Gerardo Calderon is a Community Organizer of Day Laborers for Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York. On this Labor Day weekend in 2018, Gerardo discusses the situation of the day laborers he organizers in the South Bronx and what assistance Catholic Charities provides to them to ensure that they get the training and assistance they need to succeed.
