How Religious Belief Can Influence Our Understanding of the Supernatural and Looking for God in All the Wrong Music

On this week’s episode of JustLove, Monsignor Kevin Sullivan talks about Halloween and looks for spiritual meaning in secular music.

Regina Hansen, Ph.D. is a Senior Lecturer in Rhetoric at Boston University’s College of General Studies and author of the book: “Roman Catholicism and Fantastic Film”. During this weekend preceding Halloween, Dr. Hansen, whose research interests include study of the supernatural and the fantastic in literature, film and popular culture, talks about how religious belief and sub-text has had a significant impact on the genres of fantasy, horror and other expressions of the fantastic in film and other venues in popular culture over the years.

Fanny Gomez is the Social Media Specialist at Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York and she talks to Msgr. Sullivan about the religious themes in the music of two generations of Pop performers: Madonna and Lady GaGa. They review and analyze lyrics to “Like a Prayer” by Madonna and “Million Reason” by Lady Gaga.
