Commemorating “Laudato Si” and a look at Catholic Charities Chicago during COVID-19

On this week’s episode of Just Love, Monsignor Kevin Sullivan talks about the church and the environment, and also the effects of the pandemic on the people of Chicago.

Jonathan Pruitt is the Environmental Justice Program Coordinator for Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Stockton, CA. He works with the local Catholic community and other partners to advocate for sustainable and just community growth and the improvement of air quality, as well as to reduce the impact of climate change in the San Joaquin Valley of California. The worldwide Church is commemorating the 5th Anniversary of the publication of Pope Francis’s Encyclical Letter on the Care of Our Common Home: “Laudato Si” on this Sunday, May 24th. Jonathan talks to us about how the Catholic Charities of the local Church in Stockton, California is putting Pope Francis’s Encyclical Letter into practice in their local community, even during this time of our current pandemic.

Kathy Donahue is the Acting President, Administrator and Chief Executive Officer of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago. During the on-going COVID-19 Pandemic, Kathy shares what her agency is doing to help Chicagoans confront the on-going pandemic, what she sees as the greatest needs facing her city in light of the pandemic, how Catholic Charities of Chicago has changed its operations and priorities amidst the pandemic, and how Catholic Charities of Chicago is preparing to meet people’s longer-term needs that will need to be addressed as a result of the pandemic.
