The Impact of Hurricane Laura and Commemorating World Day of the Poor

This week on Just Love, Monsignor Kevin Sullivan talks about Hurricane Laura and the effects of climate change on the poor.

Ben Broussard is the Chief Communications Officer of Catholic Charities of Acadiana located in the Diocese of Lafayette in Southern Louisiana Cajun Country. Ben talks about the impact that Hurricane Laura has had on his community and surrounding communities in southern Louisiana, and how Catholic Charities of Acadiana is partnering with other Catholic Charities agencies across the state to assist those who have been impacted by the storm in communities that were already dealing with the onslaught of the Coronavirus Pandemic.

Dan Misleh is the founding Executive Director of the Catholic Climate Covenant, a partnership of twenty national Catholic organizations that helps the Catholic Church at all levels engage a Catholic approach to climate change focusing on prudence, the Common Good, and the poor. This week, the Universal Church celebrated the World Day of Prayer for Creation on September 1st. Dan shares with us about the work of Catholic Energies, a project of the Catholic Climate Covenant that assists Church institutions, like parishes, schools health care facilities, and charitable agencies, in finding outside funding to take on energy initiatives, like installing rooftop solar systems – without the burden of hefty upfront costs.
